Read: Acts 3:1-26
Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. Acts 3:7
The church is launched here in the book of Acts, and we see God miracles happen all along the way. God was moving powerfully and people were being healed (just like when Jesus was around), saved and filled with God’s spirit. Powerful stuff indeed.
Some have suggested that those miracles ended with the death of the apostles. That the Holy Spirit doesn’t fill and heal people that way anymore. That Christianity’s power in this age is the forgiveness of our sins.
While I agree that the miracle of redemption and forgiveness is amazing and even central, I see no place in the scriptures that indicate that the power and presence of the Holy Spirit would in any way diminish in the future. Experience tells me the same. I have seen God heal, deliver and fill people in powerful ways with His Spirit. I have experienced those things in my own life.
While that power should never be the point or the centerpiece of our faith, our faith is empty without the powerful work of God’s Spirit in and through us. Today, seek Him for more of His presence and work in your life. Take risks to pray bold prayers. Ask Him to fill you and to empower you. To deepen His friendship with you through the fellowship of His Holy Spirit.
Jesus – please fill me with your Spirit today and everyday. Empower me to shine your light, show your love and move in bold faith. Help me to know you better and walk in the fellowship of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
