For as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the LORD. In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. – Isaiah 11:9b-10a
In Chapter 11, Isaiah is prophesying that although God is going to punish and scatter Judah, He will gather her and the rest of the world back together under his care one day. He says that a new King will come who will be related to David, and He will not only bring people back to God, but also bring salvation to all the world. We know now that that King is Jesus, and that he did come to bring salvation to the whole world. This is only a partially fulfilled prophesy, though.
Jesus has inaugurated His Kingdom and it is spreading and growing, yet the fullness of this prophecy – the earth being filled with people who know the LORD – has not come to completion yet. It will in His second coming. The lion will lie down with the lamb, and the natural order will be turned on its head. In the meantime, we live in the age of the spirit, where God’s power is at work, and the spread of His kingdom continues.
We must continue to spread His Kingdom until all are rallied to Him. Not by force or might, but by love, service, and sacrifice. Jesus is our King; we pray for His Kingdom to keep on coming, and we work to continue to expand His rule and reign in the lives of people. He will complete it all one day, but He grants us the privilege of joining Him in the transformation process of people’s lives and our world. One day the world will be different, and we get to play a part in making it that way. What an honor and what a blast…
God, use me this day to expand your kingdom. I pray that you will truly gather all nations, and bring all people to salvation in you. Your kingdom come, your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
