Read: Exodus 13:17 – 14:31

Focus:
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”  Exodus 14:13-14

The Israelites were in quite a pickle. Stuck between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army, the people of Israel were in a panic. Who could blame them – things were looking pert near hopeless. The elation they had felt after escaping Egypt quickly turned to despair when they thought they had been led out of slavery only to die on the shores of the Red Sea. But God had a plan! And it did not include the destruction of His people.

Well before the Israelites were standing at the Red Sea in utter terror of Pharaoh and his army, God had already worked out His master battle plan. The Israelites were in shock and couldn’t see past their apparent circumstances, but God knew the whole story – and He was about to lead His people in the most amazing battle victory in all of history. But in order to claim that victory the people had to be brave. They had to take that first step in to the Red Sea holding on to the only thing they had left – their faith.

We all have had, or will have, Red Sea moments in our lives. Things look pert near hopeless and we think that all is lost. With our human eyes, all we can see is our circumstance. We think there’s no way out – at least no way that has a good ending. The emotions brewing in our hearts run the gamut from despair to disappointment that God would let it come to this. But just like the Israelites, we have the opportunity in those moments to trust in what we know of our God, and to take that next step in faith. Faith that He has a plan and even if we can’t see it – that it’s good.

So when you’re in that tough spot, take a deep breath and remember that God is not surprised at the circumstances you are in. He already has a plan, you just need to trust in Him and step into your Red Sea in faith. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Take heart – there is hope, after all!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for assuring me over and over in your Word that you hold me in the palm of your hands. That you love me and have good plans for me. Please increase my faith today so that even when I can’t see a good outcome, I can trust in you and rest in your presence. You are amazing, Lord! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
