Read: 2 Chronicles 13:1-22
The people of Judah were victorious because they relied on the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 2 Chronicles 13:18b
So what we are seeing in this passage is the consequence of Solomon’s unfaithfulness to God. The punishment and fallout is being felt in the following generations. The kingdom is torn in two and war between the tribes of Israel breaks out with Judah and Benjamin united and having some semblance of seeking the LORD. The other 10 tribes had given themselves over to false gods.
Though outnumbered two to one Judah and Benjamin win a decisive victory, and the writer attributes that victory to relying on God.
The lesson here is that even when you’re overwhelmed, say outnumbered two to one and surrounded by your enemies, God can still win the day for you.
It’s unlikely you will face a battle like Abijah did, but we all face overwhelming circumstances that feel hopeless at times; financial struggles, marriage falling apart, a crazy ex, kids going through a rough phase, gossip at work, etc. It’s a simple fact of life that we all face times when we feel overwhelmed.
But if we rely on God, if we build a foundation of worship and dependance on Him when we find ourselves in those hopeless situations, we can have hope. Because we worship and rely on a real and powerful God who will win our battles for us.
Our biggest decision each day is… what are we going to worship. Choose now to worship God, to walk with Jesus, to rely on Him, and when the battle comes you’ll be all set.
Lord, I choose today to build my life on you. To worship you and to rely on you for all I need. I trust you with my heart, my time, my treasure and my future. You are my God. In Jesus Name… Amen
