Read: Heb 1:1-14
The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God. Hebrews 1:3
The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish believers and so starts with the assumption of knowledge about Judaism. The intended audience knew the nuances of Judaism and understood concepts of the Jewish God and the existence of Angels. But not all Jews had a complete picture of who God really was…
The focus verse shines light on who Jesus was… The Son of God – and what His role was… to radiate God’s glory and express God’s character. Jesus said… “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” John 14:9
If you want to know God and what He is really like, look to Jesus. Jesus came to die for our sins and to show us what God was really like.
People sometimes say that there seems to be an Old Testament God and a New Testament God. I disagree with that statement. God is God and God is unchanging.
What we have in the New Testament is a much, much clearer revelation of who God is. Jesus was the visible expression of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15), and His teachings, life, and death are the clearest picture that we have of our Heavenly Father.
If you haven’t read through the Gospels lately take some time and do it. Read a few chapters at bed time each night and spend some time with Jesus. You’ll always be glad you did. He is amazing, inspiring, and His love is overwhelming.
Jesus – thank you for coming to earth and for showing me what God is really like and how much He loves me. Help me to walk in the light that you radiate today. Help me to walk in response to your love and character. Help me to know you and follow you better. In Jesus’ name, amen.
