DailyRead-Art-wlogoReading:  Nehemiah 6:3
so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?”

One of Satan’s great strategies against us is distraction. Nehemiah was rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem; restoring national identity and security to the nation of Israel. Sanballat and Tobiah were regional leaders opposed to Israel’s re-emergence. They conspired throughout the project to isolate, intimidate, and delegitimize Nehemiah. When it seemed that the work would be completed, their last conspiracy involved getting Nehemiah to leave the project for a special meeting on a remote site. Nehemiah saw through their plan and responded as we should respond to our adversary: “I’m doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.”

We should never come down from God’s work to entertain gossip, intimidation, or petty arguments. When Christian leaders are embroiled in small and carnal squabbles, the work of the Lord suffers. There will always be cold-hearted people attempting to set your spiritual temperature. Don’t let them! The courts of the land don’t have to accept every appeal that demands attention … and neither do you.

Stay focused on building a life that pleases God. Set high standards and don’t come down no matter what they say. You cannot marry high calling to low living.
