The law of thermodynamics declares that our world is in the grip of terminal entropy. In other words – everything is in the process of decay. I am well aware of this depressing law as my body ages and bifocals become a necessity. Nothing in this world gets better on its own.
Sorry to be such a downer, but laws are laws. Incredibly, God is not subject to the law of thermodynamics, or any other law, for that matter. With God, things can actually get better. In Christ, a marriage can go from good to great, and from great to golden, and from gold to platinum. God’s creative power can reinvent us, over and over again, making us more and more like Jesus. While all of the joys and pleasures of this life have their limitations, there is no cap on the goodness of God.
Beyond human joy, we can have “joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8). Beyond the depth of earthly peace we can have “the peace of God that passeth all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).
In Christ, there is always a better tomorrow; a greater understanding; a richer reward; a higher call; a deeper love; and hope unlimited. Jesus demonstrated this principle in the first miracle. He always saves the best for last.
