Read: Genesis 39:1 – 40:23
But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household. No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God. Genesis 39:8-9
I love the story of Joseph. It is such a rich story of what a life (our life) can look like if we totally submit ourselves to God. In Genesis 39 we find Joseph has been granted huge favor from this Egyptian master named Potiphar. He oversees everything in the household. Joseph, a man of character, took those responsibilities very seriously. Even when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce a young strapping Joseph, he said no. He knew he had been given much and much was required of him. He took his responsibilities so seriously that it caused him a trip to prison. Joseph would not compromise his morals.
Morals in our country today are at an all time low. Our culture tells us if it feels good – do it (without any thought of the consequences). Many times we are too quick to compromise if it benefits us. God asks us not to give in to temptation. We as Christians are called to a higher standard than the world. When temptation comes Gods word tells us that we, like Joseph, can win.
1 Cor 10:13 says this: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
I encourage you this day and every day… LOOK for the way out!
Father, today I pray that you would help us to be more like Joseph. Would you strengthen us so that we can overcome the temptations of this life. Would you help us to begin to look for the way out! In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
