Read: Revelation 4:1-5:14

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5

John’s revelation continues in our passage today. What a picture he paints! It’s a celebration of worship that has no end. Worship of the creator of all things, the One who sits on the throne. Chapter 4, verse 11 says “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

In ancient cultures, only a select group would be able to enter the throne room. And they would have been people of wealth, power and privilege. And they probably would have been terrified that they would do something wrong in the presence of the King or Emperor.

But not us! Because of Jesus, the Lamb sacrificed in our place, we became children of God and now have, not only the right – but an invitation to enter the throne room. Rich or poor, young or old, powerful or oppressed, we all can enter His presence. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

It’s only through the cross and Jesus’ triumph over death that we have this privilege. No one else can do it – we can’t do it, our momma’s can’t do it, our pastors can’t do it, good behavior can’t do it. It’s only Jesus – the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David – He has triumphed!

Take a moment and let the power of His triumph sink in.

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Thank you, Lord, for rescuing me. All praise, honor and glory belong to you. Help me to live my life in worship of you. In Your name, amen.
