The LORD has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make the LORD of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble.” Isaiah 8:11-12
Israel and Judah have been wavering back and forth between honoring God and idol worship for a very long time. God is mad and threatens and enacts punishment on His people throughout their history for their wavering loyalty. And here in verse 11, He lays out the recipe for pleasing Him and walking in His favor.
DON’T THINK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DOES!!!
The Apostle Paul puts it this way in Romans 12:1: “Don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Don’t think like the rest of the world does, but think and act differently. Let God’s word, His principles, His ways, and His spirit be the primary influence of what and how you think, then you will live differently than the world around you. Your heart will be less prone to wander. He then says to not get caught up in conspiracies and fear. Paranoia is not the way of God, and when we are being shaped by his word and spirit, there is no time or space in our lives for paranoia and fear. He is the God of heaven’s armies, and He wins! What is there to fear?
How we think shapes our lives, and either leads us closer to God or further away from Him. To shape our lives, we must shape our thinking with God’s word and spirit. Yes, we must live differently, but that starts with thinking differently than the world around us. Thinking differently starts with time in God’s word regularly.
God, shape my thinking with your word and your spirit. Help me to trust you above my own understanding and to walk in a life where faith trumps everything. Thank you for your amazing love and grace, and for loving me as your child. I choose this day to not think or act like everyone else, but to submit my heart, mind, body, spirit, and strength to you. Send the armies of heaven to battle for me, my family, my church and my nation this day… In Jesus’ name, Amen.
