Read: Luke 12:1-59
You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” Luke 12:40
Luke 12 is really all about being right with God and ready to stand before Him and give an account of our lives at any moment.
Jesus teaches us to not be hypocrites, but to be the same people behind closed doors that we are in the public square. To not fear what others think or can do, but to fear and honor God even in the face of persecution and death. To not worry because God loves us and is concerned with the smallest details of our lives. To be open with our faith and share with others the hope we have found.
He teaches us to share freely with those in need and guard our hearts against greed and the love of money. To be outrageously generous because God holds our lives in His hands and will provide for us – it’s a guarantee. And when we are, we actually send our treasure on ahead to heaven in an eternal investment account.
He instructs us that since we have been given much, spiritually speaking, much is expected. We must live authentic, fearless, worry free and generous lives each and every day, because either Jesus is coming back or we will die, but either way it’ll be a surprise.
What Jesus is saying here is, if you live My way every day, seek My Kingdom first – every moment, be the real deal all the time, then you will always be ready. Don’t put it off until you’re older or until you make your first million. Live for Me today and every day. Your life will be fuller, your heart will be freer, and you’ll be ready when it’s time to come home.
So is your faith compelling you to live an authentic, fearless, worry free and generous life? If not, this is worth wrestling with.
Jesus help me to live like this in the deep places of my life. Make my faith authentic, fearless, worry free and generous. Set me free from hypocrisy, greed, worry and fear and make my heart soar in freedom and friendship with you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
