Read: 1Peter 1:13-2:25
So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. 1 Peter 1:14
Peter, writing from jail in Rome, instructs the churches around the empire in how to live for God.
One of the things I love about Peter is he doesn’t pull punches. He lays it out just the way he see’s it, and in verse 14 he makes clear that we are not to live the way we once did before we knew Christ.
For Peter, and for Jesus for that matter, how we lived in response to grace mattered supremely. Don’t claim grace, he would say, and then go on living for yourself. The gateway to God’s grace is surrender and repentance to Jesus. The pathway of God’s grace is surrender to God’s ways.
So many people in this day and age claim Jesus and then go on living for themselves. Peter says cut that out. “You must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires.”
Jesus, forgive me for slipping back into the pattern of living for my own wants and desires. Father, help me to live as an obedient child, wanting what you want for me more than what I want for me. In Jesus name, amen.
