Read: 1John 1:1-2:27
For the Spirit- teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true-it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ. 1John 2:27
The apostle John was one of Jesus’ best friends when he was walking the earth, so John writes from a very personal perspective when he talks of following Jesus. John’s emphasis on love, and obeying God are a consistent theme for him, and true to the original message of Jesus.
John urges us to lean into the Holy Spirit, to listen to Him, and to “remain in fellowship with Christ.” That’s really what the Christian faith comes down to. Loving God and each other, obeying God, and remaining in a dynamic relationship with Jesus.
We tend to clutter up faith with other things, and even the early Christians were as risk of being led astray by alternative teachings and theologies, but John makes it real clear here. It’s simple… love, obey and stay close to Jesus.
So how is your relationship with Jesus? Do you listen to the Holy Spirits’ whisper in your heart? Do you make time to sit with Him and talk (pray)? Does He guide your decisions and steer your conscience? If not, something is out of kilter in your faith.
Take some time now and invite the Spirit to fill you. Make some time to listen and invite Him to speak to you, and nurture that fellowship with Christ. It makes life worth living!
Jesus – fill me with your spirit, speak to my heart, and let me know the joy of a day in-day out friendship with you. In your name I pray, amen.
