Read:  Ezekiel 10:1-22

Then the glory of the LORD moved out from the entrance of the Temple.  Ezekiel 10:18

Ezekiel is having a vision here that is most disturbing;  the presence of the LORD leaving His temple.   The presence of God resided in the Ark of the Covenant, and over the years the glory of the LORD would fill the tabernacle and later the Temple where the Ark was kept.  God’s presence was the hope, the glory, the blessing of His people.  Without His presence they had nothing.  Here, through prophetic imagery, God is showing Ezekiel that He will remove his presence from His people.

Later, Christ would come to restore fellowship between God and people, and establish a whole new way for us to experience and walk in His presence.  With the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ and the outpouring of the presence of God at Pentecost, we now live in an age where we are the temple of God, and His presence lives inside our hearts.  We don’t have to go to a temple in Jerusalem, but God comes to us and takes up residence inside.  How awesome is that!!!

Just like the presence of God was the glory of His people then, the same is true for us today.  Jesus said that the Spirit brings life and springs of living water forth from our souls (John 4).  The last thing I want is to run God’s presence off from my life.  I join with the Psalmist in praying…   “10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a loyal spirit within me.  1Do not banish me from your presence,  and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.   12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,  and make me willing to obey you.” (Psalm 51:10-12)

God’s people disobeyed Him to the point that they ran Him off.  As we discussed in earlier entries, sometimes God cuts us loose so that we will discover the futility of life without Him and then ultimately turn back to Him.  That’s what He’s doing here – but He will be back, Jesus is coming…  if they turn back to Him, He will run to them and restore them.

Have you ever asked God to fill you with His Spirit?  If not, do that now.  Are you living for Him or are you doing your own thing?  There is nothing like life with God on the inside, His presence and glory in you and through you.  It is the blessed life.

Father God – Forgive me for disobeying You, for putting other things before You, and for not trusting You with my life and future.  Create in me a clean heart and renew Your Spirit’s presence in me.  Let me walk in friendship with You today, and fill me with Your life and power.  Thank You for Your mercy and for picking me up when I stumble.  Thanks for Your faithfulness and thanks for loving me so much.  I love You Father… In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
