Read: 1Cor 15:1-58

1 Corinthians 15:19 “If our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.”

The apostle Paul here instructs the Corinthian Church about eternal life and the coming resurrection of the dead when Christ returns.

Vs. 19. “If our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.” In other words, if our faith is just a crutch to help us get through this life, if we are just living for this world, and have no vision or hope for eternal life, then what are we doing?

So many Christians today have a theology for eternal life, but practically live like this life is all there is. We end up not thinking about the next life, and making decisions based on what will get us ahead today, rarely considering the eternal impact.

When we handle money, careers, parenting, ministry, etc., we look at the next day or year or decade, but we rarely consider eternity. When facing challenges and trials, we tend to look at them through the lens of this life, not eternity.

An eternal perspective makes you bullet proof and high impact. No matter what you face… with an eternal perspective it is small, manageable, and in the end we win. So it’s not the big deal that it feels like at the moment.

With an eternal perspective we look at the impact of our life in a different way. We invest in people differently, we raise our kids differently, approach our careers and purpose differently.

So where are your eyes? On this world or the next? Let me encourage all of us to hope in and for eternal life. Keep your eyes on that prize, and the way you live now will look very different.

Father – help me to live for eternity today and every day.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
