Read: Habakkuk 3:1-19
I am filled with awe by Your amazing works. Habakkuk 3:2
The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to walk upon the heights. Habakkuk 3:19
Habakkuk recounts the mighty acts of God through the history of the Jewish people, reflects on the power of God, and declares that, even in the midst of the current struggle, God is faithful, good, and the source of strength and confidence for His people.
So often when things are tough we ask the question, “where are you God?” Or sometimes “are you even real?” Difficulties are common to all people and really say nothing about the reality of or the capability of God. Faith really becomes faith as we walk through those times of trial and continue to trust God to the point of obedience and devotion – even when things aren’t going our way.
Like Habakkuk, it’s so helpful to reflect on what God has done, both by reading His word and by looking at our own story. In part, this is why keeping a spiritual journal of what God is showing you in His word and what He is doing in your life is such a powerful practice. If you don’t have one, start a journal today or at least order one. I do all my journaling on a program called Evernote, but use whatever works for you. Just do it.
Take a few minutes and reflect on what God has done, and thank Him for His faithfulness. Especially if you’re going through a tough time right now.
God – You are great – there is no one like You – everything I see has been made by You! Thank You for all that You have done in my life and in our world. Nothing I face is big in comparison to Your power, Your capacity and Your love. You are my strength and you enable me to walk on the heights. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
