A boy grows up with interchangeable video friends. He flips through twenty channels in 40 seconds. His compressed attention span demands information packaged in 15-second sound bites.
Why watch a movie when a music video tells it all in three minutes? Why read a book when a video supplies imagination? Why grapple with reality when “virtual reality” offers a broad selection? He’s growing up in a world high on choice and low on commitment. He speeds through adolescence bouncing in and out of short-term relationships. By the time he reaches mid-life he is stung by the realization that his life has no direction. He is a masterpiece without a master plan … an abstract. Constant change has left him physically, emotionally and spiritually overdrawn.
In the absence of commitment his choices become increasingly tiresome. Nobody ever told him that you could take a multiple-choice test and choose all the wrong answers.
