Read: Matt 26:17-30
For this is my blood… it is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Matt 26:28
Jesus is gathered with His disciples to celebrate the passover dinner for the last time. Each element of the Passover dinner or Seder has built-in symbolism. The meal tells the story of God’s redemption, His rescue of His people from slavery in Egypt.
Jesus uses the meal to tell the new story of God’s rescue and redemption. One that will be paid for in His own blood, not the blood of lambs.
Jesus’ broken body and poured out blood is our rescue. The penalty for sin is death, and He paid it for me and He paid it for you. So simple, so profound.
Jesus… thank you for your willing sacrifice for me. You not only went to the cross, but stepped down out of eternity, out of heaven and became one of us. Your love for me is so big, it’s hard to get my head and heart around. Give me grace this day to understand, to experience, and to walk in your amazing love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
